Leg and facial veins are bothersome at best, unattractive at worst. Fortunately, with cosmetic laser treatment, you can make yourself look and feel a whole lot better – often with as little as one treatment.
What are thread veins
We use the ND: YAG laser to treat fine blue and fine red veins (telangiectasia) or more commonly known as thread veins, broken veins or spider veins, which can be found on the face legs and body. Red, blue or purple leg and facial veins can be the result of hormones, sun exposure, and pressure on the area, , age or even genetics.
How does the treatment work?
The ND: YAG laser emits a prescribed dose of energy to the vein. The laser “selectively” targets the veins, safely passing through the surrounding tissue, this causes the vein to heat up and cause coagulation, which the body then naturally breaks down and passes out of the body.
Typically three to four treatments are needed for optimum results, although some lesions may clear in a single treatment. This non-invasive treatment is usually between 10 and 30 minutes depending on the size of the area to be treated.
Who is it for?
As everyone is very different and will have very individual requirements, you will be invited for a full and detailed FREE consultation prior to the start of a treatment where your individual program will be discussed and explained thoroughly. During your consultation, we also carry out a test patch and talk through before and aftercare. As long as no reaction occurs treatment can begin from 24 hours after your test patch.
You will be given an information sheet, which will contain all your pre and post care instructions for you.
How does it feel?
The treatment causes only minimal discomfort with no down time afterwards. Any redness or swelling should be gone within a day and you will be able to resume normal activities immediately, although we do ask that you refrain from hot baths/ showers and vigorous exercise for 24 hours, to aid the healing process. The area can also look bruised or inflamed, with the vessel appearing darker for a time after treatment.

Is there any special after care I need to be aware of?
Yes. Aftercare is essential and we will guide on your individual requirements. It allows us in the clinic to give you the best treatment available. Each treatment carries slightly different aftercare, and if you need products we can supply you with them too so no further shopping needed.
Can you treat a dark skin type?
Yes, we can accommodate a dark skin type. The Cynosure Elite model we use has two lasers so we can treat the correct skin type with the correct laser.
Can I go in the sun when I have had laser treatments?
Unfortunately not. The skin can hold onto heat and could cause a negative reaction. You will be fully informed about this within your consultation, and appointments can be arranged around holidays so any inconvenience is kept to a minimum
Is laser the same as IPL?
No they are two very separate things. Laser will penetrate deeper into the skin, but does it saftey. This means that is can target the base of the hair follicle and disrupt it enough so the hair growth cycle is effected. Laser will require less treatments so you get greater satisfaction. All aspects of the laser’s we work with are clinically proven. They are safe for all skin types, and we always use cold air which ensures your skin is the safest it can be.
